Heywood's
Got Some New Tunes
Anyone who has ever spent any time listening to the BOB&TOM show
has no doubt heard a song by legendary comedian Heywood
Banks. That’s because Heywood’s catalogue of classic
tunes includes fan favorites like Big Butter Jesus, I Like Summer,
Toast, 18 Wheels on a Big Rig, Punjab and Wiper Blades just
to name a few. In fact, Heywood has appeared on 36 of BOB&TOM’s
comedy albums, more than any other artist by far. We’ve just
been informed that Heywood may be adding to his already extensive list
of songs when he debuts two new ones on Friday morning. Now we’re
just hoping he knows the lyrics.
Shaking
With Laughter
Unlike most comedians, the man known as Earthquake didn’t
study to become a comedian, or even get the urge to do it after being
inspired by guys like Carlin, Cosby and Pryor. No, Earthquake says
his decision to go full steam into standup was just "the best decision
that day." At the time of making this life changing choice,
he was in the middle of an 11-year stint as an enlisted sergeant in the
US Air Force. Since then, he’s become one of the most talked
about talents in comedy today. He’s been featured on HBO,
Comedy Central, BET, and UPN, and has appeared on shows like Real
Time with Bill Maher, Everybody Hates Chris and The Dennis Miller
Show. If you’re still not done shaking with laughter
after hearing him on the show, why not pick up a copy of his new DVD, It’s
About Got Damn Time.
Sure
He's Funny, But Can He Dribble? Kenny Smith (not
the one on TNT's NBA pre-game show), is
a young comedian on the rise Just ask him, he’ll
tell ya. Already a favorite on the college circuit, Smith
has been working hard and making a name for himself in
comedy clubs across the country, while at the same time
always keeping his eyes open for any television opportunities
that may come along. So if you know anybody, make sure
you give Kenny a call. Young, fresh, loaded with energy,
and just a lot of fun to be around, Kenny Smith is a
guy who knows how to stir things up and keep audiences
roaring with laughter. All of which are import skills
in the world of comedy.
He's
Much Funnier Than He Looks Fred
Klett is one of the funniest, most creative
and clean comics you'll ever see perform, but you'd probably
never guess that just by looking at him. That's because
Fred comes across as an extremely calm, serious, and scary
looking individual, mostly because he is all of those things.
But even with his serious nature, people can't help but
crack up while listening to his offbeat observations, including
his thoughts on surviving bear attacks, animals in the
zoo and the scientific definition of a light year. You
might have seen Fred perform on NBC, Showtime or A&E,
but if not, make sure you catch him when he comes to a
club near you, or buy his DVD... when he finally releases
it
Now With His Own
Catchy Theme Song
Comedian Costaki Economopoulos'
humor has been described as smart, pointed, hip, sharp, insightful, socially
relevant, and gut-laugh funny and hes been described as a casually
brilliant joke philosopher. Just look at his business card, it's
all right there. Aside from standup comedy, Costaki is still looking
for a full time staff writing position on a sitcom, so if anybody knows
a guy, make sure to give him a call (he's in the book). But until
that day comes, the biggest name in comedy is keeping busy with other
projects, including hosting one of our favorite weekly segments, The
Economonologue.
The
Animal Conspiracy Guy Since Tim
Bedore's popular segment, Vague But True, has become
a regular feature on the BOB&TOM show, certain topics
seem to pop up on a regular basis. One of the most popular
subject matters has been the secret war raging between
man and beast which Tim has dubbed the "Animal Conspiracy." The
first installment of this larger work appeared on the album
B&T Camel Toe almost five years ago, but as
the news stories keep adding up and listener e-mails keep
rolling in, Tim has had no choice but to continue informing
the masses about this ongoing battle. Will the battle continue
in this week's report? You'll just have to tune in to find
out.
Double D Comedy Though Dov
Davidoff sounds like someone Rocky Balboa may have
squared off against in the ring, he’s actually one
of the hottest up-and-coming stand-up comedians working
today. He’s been all over television in the
past few years, popping up on shows like The Tonight
Show, The Late, Late Show, Premium Blend, and even
in his very own Comedy Central 1/2-hour special. Along
with comedy, Davidoff has also been making a name for himself
as an actor, working alongside Mark Wahlberg in the movie Invincible,
with Jeff Goldblum in the sitcom Raines and on
the very popular Chappelle’s Show. In
other news, Davidoff has just released a new CD, The
Point Is…, available through Comedy Central
Records.
A Secret
Public TV Show As an extremely popular stand-up comedian, Mike
Birbiglia is constantly on the road, and during his
travels he enjoys taking notes and recording his thoughts
for a feature known as Mike Birbiglia's Secret
Public Journal. The legions of
adoring fans who have signed up for his newsletter get
these entries e-mailed to them on a regular basis, but
out of respect for those who haven't joined, we've asked
him to occasionally stop by the studio and share his writings
over the air. In other news, CBS has given the green-light
to make a television pilot based on Mike's Secret Public
Journal, so who knows, you may be seeing him write in his
diary on your television screen sometime soon.
The One
and Only Bob Zany
All across America people are rejoicing because once again it's Tuesday,
which means it's time for another edition of the world famous Zany
Report starring comedy legend Bob
Zany. With that said, we are required to point out that while many
of Bob's Reports are chock-full of laughs, occasionally he'll deliver
one that doesn't quite go as planned. That's why Mr. Zany plays a little
game called Fix-The-Joke, Baby where a lucky fan is invited to call in
and fix one of his less than stellar punch lines live on the air. Sounds
easy doesn’t it? Oh, and did we mention there are prizes involved?
The
Indy 500 Never Looked So Good
NASCAR may still be the home of the “Good Ol’ Boys,” but
when you talk about the "Leading Lady of racing," you’d
better turn your attention to the IndyCar
Series. And what better time to do so than in the month of May with
the world famous Indianapolis 500 rapidly approaching.
For the past four years, IndyCar driver Danica
Patrick has been the face, fan favorite and media darling of the
series. With awesome driving skills and good looks to match, Danica’s
become a top draw and biggest story to hit open wheel racing in quite
some time. In her rookie season, Danica not only earned four poles, she
also became the first woman ever to lead the Indy 500 (for 19 laps),
the fastest woman qualifier of all time, and the first woman to finish
in the top five. This year, in her 50th star, Danica won her first race,
becoming the first women to ever take the checkered flag in a major racing
series. Now with this momentum behind her, could she be the first woman
to win the Indy 500?
Going Mental
Bob & Tom PSYCHOtherapist, and long time friend of the show, Dr.
Will Miller became popular for his theories on classic television
and how those shows reflect on our own society and psychology. In his
Book, Why
We Watch, Dr. Will discussed everything from Gilligan's
Island to Scooby Doo and how those
reruns were actually the path to personal peace. Then in his next work, Refrigerator
Rights, Dr. Will took an in depth look at what friendship in America
is all about by examining how individuals give out Refrigerator
Rights. In other words, how many friends do you have that are allowed
to just walk right in your home and start rummaging through you're ice
box? When listening to Dr. Will on our show, it's like watching the Dr.
Phil show, only with good advice, and entertainment value.
A Trip Through
Time If an event of any importance has
happened in the past, chances are comedian Scott
Dunn can write a joke about it. Well, not just a
joke, an entire routine to be exact. How can we make
such a bold statement? We have the proof. Scott
has spent the past year calling in to the show every Monday
to give us a little history lesson, with a twist. These lessons
aren’t boring and stuffy like when your grandpa rambles
on about his youth. No, these tales from times past are
chock-full of jokes, laughs and even a few actual historical
tidbits you might be able to use in a trivia game down the
road.
