Lovin'
the Mic
He’s been booed, fired, kicked off a USO tour, told off by a cruise
director and is no longer welcomed in Canada, but none of theses things
have ever been able to deter Darryl
Lenox from his dream of becoming one of the best stand-up comedians
in America. While others might have given up, Darryl continued
his love affair with the mic, constantly improving by working and learning
from the greats. With determination and hard work, he’s been able
to achieve a number of career goals including appearing on BET, Comedy
Central and A&E.
Giant
Robot
Comedian Dan Gabriel always
knew he was funnier than his peers, he just had to wait until college
to prove it. That's when he began his climb up the comedy ladder from
an opening act in the San Francisco area to a nationally touring headliner.
A clean, clever, and laid back comedian, Dan has appeared on Comedy Central's Premium
Blend, The Late Late Show, and NBC's Late
Friday. He also co-developed and hosted the hit first season of
Asia Street Comedy, on AZN TV.
A
Man of Mystery
He’s funny, he’s smart, he’s funny by being smart,
he’s comedian Jason Dixon. We don’t
know a lot about him as this will be our first time meeting Jason, our
searches of the web offered scant information about the man other than
he’s
been apparently been featured on Comedy Central, A&E and Caroline’s
Comedy Hour.
The
Temp
Gets a Raise Thursday nights on NBC are once again "Must
See TV" thanks in large part to the Emmy Award winning
comedy series, The
Office. On the show, B.J.
Novak plays former office temp, Ryan Howard, who this
season leapfrogged his former boss, Michael Scott (actor
Steve Carell) and got a job at the corporate headquarters.
Now as the boss, Ryan is forced to deal with the same co-workers
he couldn't wait to get away from. Along with his acting
duties on The Office, Novak is also a co-producer
and one of the lead writers for the series and can occasionally
be seen performing stand-up comedy around L.A.
Tammy's
a New
Mommy!
Not only is Tammy
Pescatelli one of our absolute favorite female comedians, she also
one of the busiest. After appearing on two seasons on NBC's Last
Comic Standing, she's been featured on GSN's Poker
Royal and US Weekly's Fashion Police and
starred in her own Comedy Central Stand-up Special. Mrs. Pescatelli (sorry
boys, she married) is a Tonight Show veteran,
a veteran of the USO comedy tour, and is a brand new mommy.
A Song For Any Occasion Tim Cavanagh is
a man who can come up with a song about anything, which
is a skill that comes in quite handy when he sits down
to write. From obscure holidays to oddball news stories,
Tim is the man we turn to whenever we need a tribute to
a subject that we never expected to need a song about.
On the show, Tim is famous for previously being "One-Minute
Song Guy" and currently for his Cavalcade of Celebrity
Birthdays feature.
Finding
the
Funny
in Everyone Tommy
Johnagin began his stand-up career at the ripe young
age of 18, a decision his parents were less than thrilled
with. But how could they argue this life choice when
their son obviously possessed a gift for joke telling,
was following a dream and promised to pay them back for
the six semesters of college he "wasted." While
on stage (and hopefully on the air) Tommy doesn’t
curse, but what he does do is find
the humor in his life and the people he meets. Check
out Tommy's new CD, Stand-Up Comedy.
The Story of Mudcrutch
When Page reunited Led Zeppelin and Clapton went back to Cream it made
sense, but when Tom Petty announced he was reforming a band named
Mudcrutch, nobody knew what to think, because for the most part nobody
had ever heard of them. Mudcrutch had
broken up over 30 years ago, had never recorded an album and didn't
release any hit singles, so there wasn't much to remember about them.
But Petty remembered, and wanted to revisit that era in his musical
career, so he made a few phone calls to a couple of Heartbreakers
(Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench)
and then two a few guys he hadn't seen in years (Randall
Marsh and Tom Leadon) and got the band
back together. Then, after a few short months, Mudcrutch was reborn
and recording the
album they'd always wanted.
Big Name, Bigger Laughs From Madison Ave mascots to oddball holidays, Costaki
Economopoulos has been giving us his take on all things America for
almost a year now in a feature he calls The Economonologue. And
though we usually have no idea what each week's topic will be, we're positive
it's going to be funny, and it's going to take place on a Wednesday.
Words Tim Bedore Says on
The Radio From his command post up north, live from his living room, comedian Tim
Bedore joins us each Wednesday to dispense a wide variety of helpful
advice, personal thoughts, absurd theories and news updates all presented
in the form of a well thought out editorial known as Vague But True.
Some of his more infamous writings include his take on the "Animal
Conspiracy" against mankind and the fun one can have by defacing a SkyMall
Magazine while flying.
An American
Comedian in America Eric
Hunter knew he wanted to be a standup comedian from
the moment he got his first laughs at a family reunion
at the ripe old age of six. Since that time he’s
added a couple more jokes to the act and has taken them
on the road to venues everywhere. A clean, friendly and
bright comedian, Eric is widely known for his deadpan attempts
to pick up women while on stage performing, and he's even
more well known for failing to do so.
Carlos Mencia:
Performance Enhanced
Over the past few years Carlos
Mencia has become one of the most popular comedians in the country,
due in large part to his presence on Comedy Central. With comedy specials,
his own TV show, and numerous other appearances on the network, Carlos
has become a household name. But don't think for a second that he's going
to start taking it easy. This May, Mencia is set to kick off the fourth
season of his popular series, The
Mind of Mencia, he's also got an all new stand-up special, Performance
Enhanced which premieres on May 18th, and if that's not enough,
he's also announced that later this summer he'll embark an a 60-city
comedy tour.
Lady Willpower,
It's Now or Never
For a few weeks now, Chick McGee has been randomly playing the song Lady
Willpower whenever he’s felt like it, which in turn has led
to a number of listeners writing in wanting to know who sang that familiar
song. We’ll, we’re happy to remind you that this tune
was actually a huge hit by one of the biggest bands of the sixties, Gary
Puckett and the Union Gap Band. For those who may not remember,
or who weren’t alive back then, Puckett garnered six consecutive
gold records in the late sixties, and the Union Gap Band was the top
selling band of 1968. Some of their other hits include Young
Girl, Woman Woman, This Girl is a Woman Now and Over You. Though
the Union Gap Band was disbanded in the mid seventies, Gary Puckett has
continues to perform around the world. And who knows, maybe we’ll
even get him to perform a live version of Lady Willpower when
he joins us in the studio on Tuesday.
What a Surprise!
It's Bob Zany!
It’s time again for everyone’s favorite weekly feature, The
Zany Report starring comedy legend Bob
Zany. In case you’re new to the show or are unfamiliar with
the concept of The Zany Report, we’ll explain how it works. Every
Tuesday, Bob Zany calls in to deliver a handful of jokes based on current
events and comical news stories. Though his intention is always to present
a report that is hilarious from top to bottom, unfortunately it doesn’t
always work out this way. Of course as good hosts, BOB&TOM are kind
enough to let him know every time one of his punchlines has come up short
in the laugh department. But this is where you, the listener, can join
in the fun because each week Zany invites a lucky fan to call in play
a little game he calls Fix-The-Joke Baby!
And Now a Reading By Mike Birbiglia As an extremely popular stand-up comedian, Mike
Birbiglia is constantly on the road, and during his
travels he enjoys taking notes and recording his thoughts
for a feature known as Mike Birbiglia's Secret
Public Journal. The legions of
adoring fans who have signed up for his newsletter get
these entries e-mailed to them on a regular basis, but
out of respect for those who haven't joined, we've asked
him to occasionally stop by the studio and share his writings
over the air. In other news, CBS has given the green-light
to make a television pilot based on Mike's Secret Public
Journal, so who knows, you may be seeing him write in his
diary on your television screen sometime soon. MIke's
book "What I Should Have Said Was Nothing - Tales From
My Secret Public
Journal" is available at Amazon.com.
Comedy's Biggest Critic Andy
Kindler is a legend among his peers for being one of
the bravest men in comedy, because while many others write
jokes about relationships, airlines, bathroom habits or even
pop culture, Andy enjoys talking about a topic that has long
been taboo, the profession of stand-up comedy. For example,
not only does Kindler give a humorous dissertation on “The
State of the Industry” at the world famous Just For
Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal each year, he's also the
author of the National Lampoon article, The
Hack’s Handbook, which is
a satirical "how-to guide" for up and coming comics.
When not analyzing the joke business, Andy is a regular contributor
to the Late Show with David
Letterman, The
Daily Show and hosts Live
at Gotham on Comedy Central.Currently
Andy is taking part in the all new Stand
Uppity Comedy Tour along with fellow comics Marc
Maron and Eugene Mirman.
FACTOID -
Andy Kindler is also one of the most outspoken
fans of the food in the BOB&TOM Green Room
The Story
of Marc Maron Marc
Maron, professional standup comedian, actor, and
writer is a true storyteller. While on stage, Maron enjoys
entertaining audiences with his political commentary,
insights into human nature, and good old-fashioned funny
stores, but his first priority is making them think.
Many of Marc’s titillating tales appear in his
first book, The
Jerusalem Syndrome, which is based on his popular
one-man show. Though Marc has a tough time describing
exactly what it is he does on stage, other's have labeled
him as heady, brilliant, angry, a satirist, a cultural
critic or an Iggy Pop Woody Allen.
A
Comedian of Comedy Eugene
Mirman immigrated from Russia when he was just
a child, and though he lived a good childhood and eventually
became a successful stand-up comedian here in America,
you’ll never hear him say “what a country!” on
stage like some other Russian comics. Since breaking
into comedy, Mirman has appeared on several TV shows
including Late Night with Conan O’Brien,
Premium Blend and Home Movies. He also
recently released his first comedy album, The
Absurd Nightclub Comedy of Eugene Mirman and
took part in the huge cross-country comedy tour, The
Comedians of Comedy.
You Might Stink
at Golf If...
You may find this hard to believe, but comedian Jeff
Foxworthy has written another book. Where he finds time to be an
author is still a mystery to us with as busy as he must be in between
hosting the hit gameshow Are you Smarter Than a Fifth Grader on
FOX, and firguring out when to organize the next Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
Jeff's new book, How
to Really Stink at Golf, will no doubt join his already impressive
list of bestsellers including the Redneck Dictionary series, You
Might Be a Redneck If..., and the children's book, Dirt on My
Shirt.
Comedy For
All Ages If an event of any importance has
happened in the past, chances are comedian Scott
Dunn can write a joke about it. Well, not just a
joke, an entire routine to be exact. How can we make
such a bold statement? We have the proof. Scott
has spent the past year calling in to the show every Monday
to give us a little history lesson, with a twist. These lessons
aren’t boring and stuffy like when your grandpa rambles
on about his youth. No, these tales from times past are
chock-full of jokes, laughs and even a few actual historical
tidbits you might be able to use in a trivia game down the
road.
