It was an overload of comedic talent in the studio today. First we talked to Mike Birbiglia about his new film "Sleepwalk With Me." Then we got some insight into married life from Auggie Smith. Costaki was live in the studio to deliver his Week 1 NFL Jokes. And finally Karen Rontowski brought a little female sensibility to the group. Mike Birbiglia
Mike Birbiglia is not only a popular and successful stand-up comedian (currently on the "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" tour), he's also the star of the one-man off-Broadway show "Sleepwalk With Me," the author of the book, “Sleepwalk With Me And Other Painfully True Stories,” and the writer, star and director of the new film Sleepwalk with Me which was based on his one-man-show, which was based on his life. The film recently debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, where Mike won the Best Of NEXT audience award. The movie is now playing in theaters across the country. Mike is on twitter and facebook. Auggie Smith
When you see Auggie Smith on stage, he may sounds like he's just manically ranting about whatever's pissed him off that day, but in actuality, every part of his act has been a meticulously crafted, well thought out and intelligently dissected into a rapid fire, seamlessly style of raving comedy. Smith has been spreading the "Word of Aug" for over a decade now, and audiences are flocking to his shows to hear more. Along with a very popular DVD and CD set, Auggie is veteran of the BOB&TOM Comedy All-Stars Tour, has been showcased at the Montreal Comedy Festival and has appeared in a number of radio and TV commercials. In other news Auggie just won the San Francisco and Seattle Comedy Competitions, making him the only person ever to win both in the same year. Auggie's new CD "Smell The Thunder" is also now on sale. While most comedian's dream of one day working in Las Vegas, comedian Karen Rontowski's career actually began there, well, sort of. She first found work in "Sin City" as a Cigarette girl, however, at the same time she was also moonlighting at The Riviera Comedy Club, learning the ropes of stand-up. After her years of studying the trade, Rontowski took the plunge and moved to San Diego where she found a home at the Comedy Store and Improv. These days, Karen travels all over the country performing which proves that not everything that happens in Vegas stays there. Her comedy has been featured on HBO, Comedy Central and MTV. Costaki Economopoulos
Costaki Economopoulos is a comedian, true, but he's also a football fan. Those two factors alone make him the perfect candidate to give us a comedic look back at the NFL each week with his new feature that's also been picked up by The Huffington Post and Bleacher Report. With his Greek heritage, it's not surprising that he's been described as a “joke philosopher,” and we're sure he's not the only one saying that. Costaki is also a talented joke writer who's punchlines have been heard on "The Tonight Show," Showtime, BET, and MTV. Follow Costaki on facebook and twitter.
